Out and About: Red Hill Epicurean

On the weekend, we celebrated my in-laws 40th wedding anniversary at the Red Hill Epicurean. This is one of my favourites restaurants on the Mornington Peninsula.  It was the perfect venue for a casual family lunch with great food and wine.  Aside from this, I really love the design and interior of this large space which is referred to as the ‘Shed’.  It has all the elements of a New York warehouse with an Italian ‘cucina’ vibe.  Raw timber beams from the old Woolloomooloo wharf meet exposed brick walls with industrial concrete floors.

The pitched clear roof allows natural light to stream in.  Ideal for the indoor herb garden that is housed in raised beds.  Along with the copper pendants which add to the rustic feel.

The preparation zone for the wood-fired pizza is a mix of marble and white subway tiles.

The Red Hill Epicurean prides itself in showcasing wine and produce from the local Mornington Peninsula region.  The wine list is extensive and many wines can be sampled from the very cool and ‘high tech’ wine dispensers.

Another great attraction on a Melbourne winter’s day are the three large fireplaces surrounded in stone.

While the adults enjoyed the warmth inside, the kids happily played out the back which abuts the Red Hill Equestrian trail.

Finally, the Red Hill Epicurean also offers pizza, pasta or bread making sessions….something to add to the ‘Must Do’ list.
