Girls’ Bedroom Makeover

The girls’ bedroom at the beach house has been undergoing a mini-makeover since we moved in (nearly three years ago!).  When we bought the house, the room was used as a TV/sitting room.  We thought the space was perfect to use as the girls’ ‘getaway’ and will hopefully see them through their teen years.  The two bunk beds are ideal for when cousins/friends stay over and the Ikea table (no longer available) gets used for all sorts of craft activities and games.  In summer, it can extend for extra dinner seating out on to the deck.  The first step was to paint the yellow walls Dulux White Swan.  This is how it looked just after we painted two years ago……excuse the ‘creative mess’.

I used neutral white bedding and added colour through the pillows.

These removable wall decals from Adairs Kids provide some additional colour.

New roman blinds in Warwick Blair Stripe fabric replaced the thread-bare ‘off-white’ ones.  But my favourite part of the girls’ bedroom makeover would have to be the butterfly light installation.  It was created by Amber of Love AJ from woven twigs.  Suspended from the twigs via fishing wire are butterflies made out of various Liberty print fabrics.  The three light globes hang through the middle. Needless to say I don’t think the electrician had ever installed anything of this kind before!

Down the track, the grand plan is to replace the aluminium sliding doors with timber french ones, opening out to the deck.

But until then, there always seems to be a higher priority.
