The inaugural Design for Mirabel event took place last week at the Two Ton Max warehouse in North Melbourne. It was the vision of American Interior Designer, Diane Bergeron (who now resides in Melbourne) to stage this annual benefit which showcased ten of Australia’s leading interior designers, to raise funds for the Mirabel Foundation. The Mirabel Foundation is the only organisation in Australia to support children orphaned or abandoned due to parental illicit drug use.
Each of the ten designers were given a ‘room’ to design, using products donated by leading brands from Australia and abroad. The rooms were then open to the public for two days, with all products being available to purchase. Proceeds from Design for Mirabel will be put towards building a new Mirabel home.
For me this was such an inspiring event, being able to view up close, the works of some talented Australian designers. But the icing on the cake was getting to meet one of my idols, US designer, Mary McDonald who was flown out as a special guest. I attended a seminar earlier last week where she spoke about her design work and signed her book, The Allure of Style.
I was able to take some photos at Design for Mirabel but apologise in advance for their quality (no natural light, and didn’t want to get in the way of other people viewing!).
1. Brett Mickan: Cosy Den
Beautiful artwork and colour. I loved the Jonathan Adler coffee table.
2. Black & Spiro: Sitting Room
In true Anna style, vintages pieces were used to create layering and texture, with lots of colour.
3. Adelaide Bragg & Associates: Conservatory
Loved the colour and particularly the bead detail on the lampshades. The pendant was gorgeous too!
4. Hare & Klein: Living Room
A glamorous and moody space with warm tones. I particularly liked the console vignette and floating shelves.
5. Patricia Stewart Design: Children’s Room
This had a very magical and almost ‘Maleficent’ feel. Amazing carved wooden crib suspended by fabric.
6. Brendan Wong Design: Sitting/Living Room
Beautiful grasscloth wallpaper. I loved the blue and gold tones.
7. Diane Bergeron Design: Study
A sophisticated space with some beautiful textures. The gorgeous black and white daybed might have come home with me!
8. Arent & Pyke: Cubby Kitchen
I loved the gelati colours in this retro kitchen. Beautiful copper tap and accents.
9. Charlotte Coote for Coote & Co: Hallway
Simple but beautiful and feminine. The marble-topped console was amazing.
10. Wonder: Reading Room
A soothing space with soft tones. I loved the vertical book display.
Design for Mirabel was not only inspiring but also wonderful to support such a worthy cause. I can’t wait to see what next years’ event has in store!
