Coffee Table 3 Ways

Choosing a style of coffee table can be overwhelming. There are so many options; square, rectangular, round, timber, metal, upholstered. Then there is the size to consider. Will it complement the surrounding furniture? Is the height appropriate in relation to the sofas?

And of course there is the aesthetic. Will it work in your living room? I have chosen three versatile styles of coffee table that look great in a variety of spaces.

1. Box Table

This table typically has a timber top and metal legs. Although more of an industrial style, it sits perfectly in a coastal living room.

But also works to make a more formally decorated room feel homely.

By adding an additional table, proportion is achieved in this living room.

Being open underneath, this style appears less ‘bulky’ and allows the surrounding furnishings to be the feature.

2. Timber Lattice Base

This coffee table is more a feature with a lattice leg.

It is practical but introduces a Hamptons vibe.

It also works in a more contemporary room.

3. Upholstered Ottoman

An upholstered ottoman is probably not the first choice for people with young children (or those who like to put their feet up!) but it has some great features. Choosing an outdoor fabric or a darker colour will help overcome some practical issues.

They are a softer look than a timber alternative and can be plain or tufted.

Upholstered ottomans provide the opportunity to have a custom-made piece that introduces a colour or beautiful fabric.
