Bedroom Blues

Thankfully we sold our house last month at auction.  Although we are madly house hunting before settlement date, I am starting to feel nostalgic about leaving this place we’ve called home for the past ten years.  When we initially moved into our Californian Bungalow, it was awash with dusky pink.  There was evidence in nearly every room of a Bunnings ‘DIYer’ with no decorating taste.  Somehow we saw through the 80s dagginess and slowly updated over the years.  The most recent room to finally get a proper makeover was the main bedroom.  I don’t have an original image of the pink room with cream floral drapes as we re-painted and replaced the curtains within the first year.  But for the most part this is how it looked…….colourless and miserable! It reminds me of my student days and I now wonder why I left it so long!

The room is not very large so I wanted to create a cosy feel, with a hotel vibe.  I considered various patterned wallpapers but they all seemed too overpowering for the space.  I was also keen to wallpaper the entire room, not just one feature wall (why not?!).  My answer……..grasscloth.  The texture added the warmth and interest that was needed.  The colour was not difficult to choose, I am definitely a blue girl and Mr Gallerie B approved too.

The result far exceeded my expectations and I was so happy with the wallpaper choice, Schumacher Haruki Sisal in Nile.  It has definitely made the room feel more elegant and cosy.  The white paint trims, curtains and furniture now ‘pop’ in contrast. I love the pairing of silver with blue so added the two mirrors, which also help to increase the light.  Two Cayman Chests from Xavier Furniture provide much-needed storage, and the white gourd lamps had long been on my wish list.  The bedding is from Sheridan and feature cushions made from a Christopher Farr Venecia fabric.  I would still like to re-upholster the bed head in a silver/grey linen down the track.

I think I was in such a hurry to get rid of the dusky pink curtains all those years ago and always wish that I had included a silver curtain rod, just to add a bit of ‘glam’.

I love this time of day when the sun streams in.

IMG_0867I have added blue and silver accessories.

At night the walls look moody and turn ink blue.

This is the image used for our recent Sale Campaign.  The wallpaper takes on an almost turquoise shade with all the lights on.

Wish I could take the grasscloth with me but looking forward to creating a new bedroom space in our next house……wherever that may be!
