Choosing pendant lights for our new kitchen is one thing I am very excited about. The countdown is on for our demolition. Although we don’t have an exact date yet, I have mentally already moved out and am loving the planning phase. I have decided to have feature pendants above the kitchen island bench. Although technically they will be used for ‘task’ lighting, they will set the scene for the open plan kitchen/living and dining. The decision of whether to use two or three pendants in a row usually depends on the length of the bench. Although designers usually prefer three’s, two pendants are perfect for a smaller bench space or if the lights are oversized. Looking through my Pinterest kitchen images (here) there are a few styles that are predominantly featured.
The Lantern:
With or without glass, lantern pendants add an industrial feel and can make a classic kitchen more contemporary.
Although I love this pendant, I think it needs a friend alongside it!
The choice of two lanterns is perfect for this space.
Classic Nickel and White:
The following two images are the Clemson pendants available from one of my favourite U.S. stores, Restoration Hardware. Again, they have an industrial shape but being made of glass, have a softer look. The nickel trim adds a sense of luxe.

I would have chosen a larger size Clemson as in the image above, to make a bigger statement.
These Grosvenor pendants (available from U.S. lighting supplier, Circa Lighting) also appear numerous times throughout my pinned images. The nickel accents and white pleated shades are a beautiful combination. I love the nickel rod too.

Nickel Industrial:
When paired with a marble island benchtop and nickel tapware, nickel pendants are the perfect match. Available in various shapes and sizes, these pendants are a classic choice.
