My next house exterior is tricky to describe because in my mind, it is a mix of styles. I am still amazed at what inspiration Pinterest offers and my board of House Exteriors definitely has some strong themes.
1. Gabled Roof
I think my love of the gabled roof began when we lived in Virginia. This is the house that we rented for 18 months and my bedroom was part of the attic. I loved this room, especially the sloped ceiling and views from the dormer windows.
A few years ago I visited my high school friend in North Carolina. A stroll through her housing estate revealed so many beautiful house exteriors with gables galore.
One of my favourites.
2. Shutters
Again, I think I am influenced by our Virginian house but I love shutters on a facade. In many cases they are the icing on the cake.
3. Verandah
A lovely verandah where I can fit a bench seat, pretty cushions and hang some lantern pendants and I’ll be very happy.
I’ve taken to stalking some local properties too in the quest for my perfect house exterior. I particularly love what the owners have done with this home. They salvaged it from its dilapidated state last year and restored it to this beauty. I love that verandah!
4. Stonework Feature
I’m still not 100% on whether or not I would like an element of stone on the facade. It’s not something you see frequently in Melbourne but I am keeping an open mind.
Maybe a stone feature such as a chimney?
We have yet to lock in a builder but hopefully I don’t scare off too many with my house exterior vision!
