Butler’s Pantry Love: Storage and Coffee!
by
We have been in our new house for one month now and it hasn’t taken long for it to feel like home. There are so many little things that I am loving but one of the big things is the Butler’s Pantry. I have never had a great amount of pantry storage in our previous homes and putting in a Butler’s Pantry was high on my wish list. I am a big fan of shopping at Costco and wanted lots of space to store my ‘bulk’ items. I joked with the tradies that if there was ever a famine, they could come to my place!
Thanks to adjustable shallow shelving, my Tupperware finally has a home where it is easily accessible. I went a bit crazy at Ikea buying their Variera Boxes, which I find are great for storing the kid’s lunchbox snacks etc.
We also included a space for the wine storage, a wine fridge and microwave.
The other item that has long been on my wish list is a good coffee machine. I am a ‘one coffee a day’ girl so it has to be a good one. Until now, we have had a machine at home that I never used. It was complicated, inconsistent and took up a good amount of bench space. At a blogger’s breakfast that I attended last year, I came across the Jura machines. I loved their sleek look and the coffee I tried did not disappoint. One year later, with the bench space waiting, I was ready to commit.
We bought the latest Jura Z6. After one month I would have to say it is one of the best purchases I have made. It is really easy to use (and clean!). It does it all, grinds the beans and heats and froths the milk with the push of one button. We have had lots of visitors and I love being able to offer them a good quality coffee of their choice.
I have found my perfect customised blend. (Tip: always warm the cup first with hot water, makes a big difference!)
This latest model also comes with an app. It still amazes me that I can ‘order’ my customised coffee with my iPhone!
I can be anywhere and with the press of a button my coffee is made and ready for when I get home.
All in all, yes this machine is an investment but I am definitely saving money not buying my hit and miss takeaways. My butler’s pantry has quickly become my new sanctuary!

Serious pantry envy fro me!! Looks great-are we getting a house tour?
Thanks Deb. I am still chipping away at furnishing some rooms but will try and share what rooms are complete soon! x
Love your Pantry Belinda – I am planning our butlers pantry at the moment and was wondering if you would share with me the depth of your food storage shelves – looking forward to knowing what is in the back of my pantry shelves!
Hi Jo. Thanks so much. Yes, the shelves are 30cm deep which I find perfect, not too shallow, not too deep. I have had deep cupboards in the past and I agree, there is nothing worse than not seeing what is lurking in the back! x
Jura is the best! I bought then ENA for the hubbie and it has lasted 6 years thus far……would love to upgrade to yours (but too many other projects!). Your butler’s pantry is amazing. Well done.
I love it Lynn. Great to hear yours is still going strong. Thanks for your kind words x
Hi Belinda, I’m in the process of planning my butlers pantry and I was wondering how much space you had between you bench and your shelving. And how do you find it. Is it enough or not enough. On those mornings when everyone is in the pantry making coffee, cooking toast I don’t want it to feel too crowded. Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks.
Hi Janelle. There is 1.0m between the shelving on one wall and the bench on the other. The toaster is in a separate appliance cupboard in the kitchen. So far we haven’t had any issues of crowding. We usually bring the pantry food out to the kitchen island bench to prepare if someone is in the butler’s pantry. I am really loving the space and am so glad we were able to include it. I especially love the shelving where I can see what I have and what I need easily before I go shopping. Good luck x
