4 Ways To Disguise A TV

by

Let’s face it, there is a big (black) elephant in all our living rooms. As our living spaces become more open, TV’s are only getting bigger and more dominant. From an aesthetic point of view, the big screen is not pretty. This doesn’t mean that it needs to be the focal point of the room. Here are 4 Ways to Disguise a TV.

Balance The Black

By having a dark wall behind the TV, there is less contrast against the black screen. I love this idea of using a darker grasscloth wallpaper.

Although this screen is mounted on a white wall, the two adjacent darker walls provide a balance and soften the look.

Conceal It

Ideally the TV can be hidden away when not in use. This clever design tucks it away above the mantle.

I like this design detail from the most recent The Block series. A sliding door mounted with artwork conceals the TV when it’s not in use.

This is a more contemporary look but the black frames and artwork work well to disguise the TV.

Build It In

And my favourite way to disguise a TV is to build it into bespoke cabinetry. By creating shelves alongside and above the TV, decorative items such as books and ceramics take the focus away from the flat screen.
